oh kati :)

Yesterday Kati had her first indoor meet, where she was going to run in the 4x800 relay but unfortunately her feet have been bothering her for awhile so she just went to watch. After the meet the team went to a team dinner/breakfast at Perkins. When she got home (at 2:45 am) this is the story she had to tell us:

"Mom, when I was leaving Perkins, I was backing out and all of the sudden one of the headlights went out. I basically just thought whatever, we will fix it later. Then I was driving back down 151 about two minutes later when I noticed a cop sitting in the middle of the grassy area and I remember thinking that he must be really bored because there was no one on the road.

Less then 5 seconds later I watched him drive out and turn on his lights. I pulled over to the side of the road (to let him pass) and to my surprise, he pulled up right behind me and I got pulled over for the first time! Then the cop told me to pull over all the way off the road and then starting talking to me. He asked me where I was going (home after a track meet), then how I did at the track meet (I didn't actually run but our team got second), and then if I lived in Sun Prairie (yes, I do). He then told me that he had pulled me over because I had a headlight out then I said that it had just gone out. Then he asked me to give him my license and he went back to his car. Thats when I noticed for the first time that my leg was shaking uncontrollably and that I was super nervous. I also remembered that I was almost out of gas so I turned off the car and just sat back and relaxed (as much as I could) and waited for him. After what seemed like forever, he came back and told me that he wasn't going to give me a written warning and just to have my mom or dad fix the headlight. Then he told me to drive safe.

So then i started to drive home again. Less then 5 minutes later when I was about two blocks away from my house (in front of Prairie View, if anyone knows where that is) I looked back and to my disbelief, there was yet again flashing lights behind me! So yet again I pulled over again and just sat there waiting for him to come up and talk to me. I was alternating between wanted to cry and laugh hysterically (it was 2 o'clock in the morning, and I was pretty tired). Then the cop came up and told me who he was and why he pulled me over (Officer ___ from the Sun Prairie Police and because my headlight was out).

By this time I was like seriously, I already knew that, a different cop just pulled me over and told me. And he was like oh really, do you have your warning? (Nope the cop just gave me a verbal warning). Then he asked me where I was coming from (the track meet) and how I did (I didn't actually run because I'm injured) and what was wrong (my feet have been bothering me). Then he asked me for my license and started talking about how he runs marathons and loves running and how its such a great sport to be involved in. Meanwhile, I was having a hard time getting my license out of my wallet so he started to give me advice on the best way to get it out (because obviously ever police officer knows how hard it can be to take a piece of plastic out of a holder.) I finally got it out and gave it to him. Then he just keep talking about running and finally went back to his car (after he checked with a flashlight to make sure I wasn't storing anyone away). Then I waited (again). After what seemed like an hour (it was about 10 minutes) he came back with a written warning, telling me that I had 10 days to fix the headlight or I get a ticket. Then he told me good luck with my season and to drive safely and I could go again.

Now by this point, I was ready to drive like 100 miles an hour just to get home before I got pulled over again (but I didn't really want to get pulled over for speeding) so I finally made it home! I couldn't believe my bad luck, getting pulled over twice during a drive that takes less then 10 minutes! It was the most ironic, crazy, unfair, but also really funny thing that has ever happened to me in my life!"

I was right is what I told Kati, nothing good happens after midnight!

That's quite a story Kati. I'm sure glad you finally made it home okay. I hope the light will be fixed before you drive at night again.

Isn't it such an adrenaline rush when those lights start. Good luck Kati, and Jenni fix those lights for the poor girl. Love the story!
