Trip out to Utah

(Beware long post, lots of pics, be glad I am not a wordy person.) So the driving began. I don't know how many times we have made this trek but it is way too many to count. I am pretty sure that Iowa has the best rest areas around. We played catch almost every time we stopped. We also experienced the totally wierd experience of a third driver. Kati drove quite a bit of our drive out. It was nice to have someone else to drive. She is a great driver, YEAH!!

When she wasn't driving this was the scene in the car.We decided to do some things different to spice it up a bit. First we chose to camp and we stayed at Cabelas in Nebraska. Not one of my favorite camp spots (no trees, close to freeway, pitched on sand) very midwest camping. But an adventure and not awful. We then went off the normal route and chose to take the pioneer trek way and see chimney rock. The kids were sad they could not climb to the top, I was happy, they scare me.The funniest site in Nebraska... speaks for itself!

Jacob saw a sign for a natural bridge, it was great, off the road a bit but worth it. They climbed to the top and then waded in the water. This will hurt later as we roll into mom and dad's at 2:30 in the morning but well worth it.

We also stopped at independence rock. The kids were able to climb to the top of this one and I ended up having to go back to the car and not watch. I knew they would be fine but I couln't watch. They loved it and saw names carved into the stone. Our goal the whole day was to visit Martin's Cove. We took so long to get there we arrived as it was closing. We couldn't walk out to the cove but were able to see a video and play around. We still felt the spirit of the area and were able to teach our children about the group and sacrifice. It was too bad we missed out on some of it but we will just have to stray off the path another time and go back.

Great pictures. Imagine how great our little journals will be in years to come. If no one else reads them we at least have a history with more than written entries.

Way to spice things up a bit. Our drive was very boring! Maybe next year we will try to do something more interesting...

Good for you for stopping along the way. It seems like most of us just try to get there as quickly as we can. Great pics and soo fun to get to have a visit while you were out! Thanks for making the time!
